Spent a couple of hours at the mall getting a new iPhone. Canadians by nature are a friendly bunch and the salesman was very nice, thanks Rogan! Downtown Saint John is very nice but I can't do the hills like I could when I was in my thirties... ...
Walked around town, found a nice art glass shop with live glass blowing demos. There's a shopping area by the dock called Container Village, which also has food and live music. ...
The Hop on-hop off wasn't as interesting of a trip as it was in Halifax. We went to the Bay of Fundy which was great, I got off, took video, and got on the next bus. The other stops on the trip were boring. A brewery, the plank restaurant that charges you to see the whirlpools, and the city center. You can get to the city center on foot from the ship, it's very close. There's a great view of the ...
We've been before. We booked a ship tour and our excellent guide made the point that if you are on a ship tour, the ship will wait for us even if we are delayed. Well, we got delayed, through no fault of our own. Another tour bus had broken down and there was a discussion, for 45 minutes, as to whether we should take some of that group. Then there was the possibility that we would miss our ...
St. John is a nice port and an easy area to walk through and around. We like the city market and found some nice butter tarts there. We did not purchase anything other than the tarts, but enjoyed our stroll through the area immediate to the ship docking area. ...
Took a tour to Maple Sugar Shack to see how maple sugar was made. We expected to see a grove of maple trees and a fancy operation. Instead if was a couple of scraggly maple trees and a home grown small scale business. Informative but not what we expected. I do applaud the owners for their dedication to the craft. ...
We did the hop on hop off tour in St John. There weren't enough busses. It took too long for us to get on the first bus. Once we got on the busses, it was good. I wish we had more time at the reversing falls. We would've needed to be there long enough to see the changing of the tides and timing just didn't permit it. There are some pretty crazy tides in this port, so that made it really ...
St. John itself can probably be seen in about 1 to 2 hours. It is not very large, but it is not very clean either. There is a lot of new construction going on, so I am sure when they are done things will improve. One recommendation is that as you exit the ship, turn right. There is about a 3 minute walk to the Three Sisters Lamp, a local landmark. Walking "up the hill" to City Market gives ...
This port and tour was interesting but I felt rushed. I'd rather do fewer items and do them well instead of trying to do everything and not feeling like we really had time to do anything. Long bus rides! My husband and many others fell asleep on the bus. ...
