Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Carnival Freedom

Booked a tour through another company for a beach break. Was 1/2 the price of the cruise line for the same thing. Turned out pretty good. Ended up with only about 3 hours on the beach for lunch, drinks and relaxing because bus ride is longer. Progreso port is not that impressive. Not much to do there and I doubt if I would return. ...

We did not elect to take an excursion in this port and should have. This is a VERY poor area of Mexico. Stepping out of the port area / bus terminal puts you right in the middle of downtown. We walked three blocks from the bus terminal before we turned around and headed back to the bus terminal as we did not feel safe at all. I do not plan to book a cruise that includes this port again. ...

We got off the ship and did a little walking around. Of course everyone wanted you to buy their items and we did get a little souvenir each. We walked down to the beach which is not a nice beach if you are looking for sand but the kids enjoyed splashing in the water a bit. ...

Summary: If you don't mind being bothered on the beach to buy something numerous times throughout the day, Progreso really isn't such a bad spot. Food, drinks, and souvenirs are all cheaper in Progreso than other big ports like Cozumel. We took the free AutoProgreso shuttle from the cruise terminal into the city. They drop you off at the Bazar de Artesanias between Calle 80 and Calle 78, about 2 ...

Progreso is a great jumping off spot for the magic of the Yucatan. It is our favorite place to cruise. We love Merida, Izamal, and the ruins. This time we debated about Carnival's Tour to Merda and Izamal (great reviews), but since we had already been to both places, we opted for a private tour to Uxmal and swimming in a cenote with Lawson Tours. A great choice -- we got to experience the Yucatan ...

Not worth getting off the boat! You get off the boat have to walk about 15 minutes through a bunch of shops to get to the bus to which you have to take a 20 minute bus ride to the actually beach. Which not all the buses are air conditioned and you are going down a 2 lane narrow bridge to the beach. You then have to go through another 20 minute shops to get to anything. The beach is no better then ...

As usual, very pushy, not incredibly clean, but I loved it. DO NOT BOOK YOUR STUFF ON CARNIVAL. Get off the boat, go to the White Buses as soon as you can, they are called AutoProgreso. There they will offer you a trip to some place that has a hotel, beach, bar, buffet, etc. We paid 35 a person, and the kids were all free. It was going to be 200 for all of us with Carnival, but we got out for 70. ...

Wasn't sure what to expect here, so many people said that with this being a new port there wasn't much to do, but we found something! Just like the day before we took it upon ourselves to try and find a beach! At this port, when you make your way through the initial shops, which is more flea market-ish than Cozumel, there is a free bus that will take you to the city. Once in the city you can opt ...

There was free transportation to Progreso from the ship. After we got past all the vendors to the public beach, it was lovely. There were also some vendors that approached while we were enjoying the sun but none of them were intrusive. ...
