The port is the near the very old Seaport area. They have a wonderful walking paths and through the older part of town they have a walking tour with medallions built into the sidewalks so you don’t get lost. We found it to be very friendly and we had drinks on the pier on the way back to the ship that were very good and reasonably priced. ...

We did not take a ship excursion. Instead we walked down the path to the Monterey Aquarium. It is a bit of a hike (1.5 miles) but good exercise with a gorgeous view. The aquarium was wonderful. We made it in time for penguin feeding. The jellyfish exhibit was amazing.
