Very cute town, most everything is within short walking distance. Lots of shops selling tourist junk but if you go to the right ones, you can find some really special gems. It's worth noting that for many shops, their open hours are totally contingent on the cruise ships. Ketchikan is best for souvenirs and tourist stuff for sure. The totem pole heritage center is worthwhile as it's along the way of the salmon run creek. The lumberjack show is fun and only one hour, well worth it. ...
We did Kayaking and it was amazing. It was a small group of 8 of us. We saw a whale so we got to abandon the tour route and we chased the whale. We got about 30 yards or so consistently from it and just got amazing video. Experience of a lifetime. If you dock in Ward Cove you are about 10 miles from Ketchikan and need a shuttle.
