Wasn't really happy with this port. Kind of smelly and not rally a lot to see immediately. I suggest taking the train soon as you get off the boat. ...
We just stayed at Katakolon and ate/drank/shopped. In the afternoon we went to the beach just to the north of the pier and laid in the sun and swam. A lovely relaxed day. ...
We took a bus to Olympia from the port and visited the ancient site on our own. We had purchased Rick Steve’s book on Mediterranean Cruise Ports (great buy, by the way!) and did a self-guided tour described in the book. Worked very well for us. Olympia is a unique place for those who love history. If you don’t do research and come out to Olympia ancient site on your own, it might be a ...

Very easy to visit Olympia on your own. PLenty of local coaches just outside the port gates that charge 10€ and give you 2 hours to visit the sight. Admission is 12€, so makes a very pleasant trip ...
We booked Katakolon Taxi Tours for a half day tour and had a wonderful tour of the island including the museum and a fabulous winery. Our driver, George, was terrific- friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. He took us to restaurant with a breathtaking view of the island which was the perfect way to end our time in Katakolon. ...
We take the train to Olympa. It is about a 3 minute walk from the town, just follow the harbor and go right as you face the town. Get the train timetable. I think the last train back leaves around 2 PM. Also recommend getting a "then" and "now" book as that helps you see what it looked like back in the day. Or, take a tour, we noticed that the tours were using i-pads to recreate the various ...
