Having been to Ephesus already (which is not to be missed!) we opted for a tour of Izmir which is a huge and modern city. At first we wanted to hire a taxi but, leaving the port gate, we saw horse-led carriages and hired one. The carriage took us along the waterfront to the agor, to the bazaar, to Konak square and back to the port. We had the opportunity to go on and off the carriage to take ...

The optional tour was for Ephesus which we've seen before on a previous holiday to Turkey and it was very interesting but we didn't really need to visit again. Usual experience for Turkey, pester, pester, pester. Izmir was one of our stops during our NCL cruise. We wanted to take an excursion from NCL but all NCL excursions included a obligatory one hour visit to a Turkish carpet factory. Ephesus is 70 kilometres from Ephesus, so the return journey takes at least 2,5 hours. Because of these two things, there would be little time left to visit the ruins in Ephesus. All NCL excursions except one do not ...

The next day was Izmir, Turkey and we booked a tour to Ephesus with Melitour. Mr. Mete met the 4 of us at the port and we had a van and a driver for the day. Mr. Mete was very informative and we learned a lot about Turkey. He also gave us some tips about visiting Istanbul the next day. It takes about an hour to get to Ephesus. Ephesus was amazing, it definitely exceeded my expectations. We ...
