Had been raining when arrived. Beautiful rainbow over bay. Met up for our Princess excursion in pier building. In the past, there were singers greeting us and they had booths selling handmade island things. no more, just the cold building. Great tour to volcano, lava tube, and the surrounding area. We took the long day tour to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park plus Rainbow Falls. This was the one HAL tour we booked in advance which HAL did NOT cancel at the last minute. The guide brought us to an overlook at Crater Rim Drive to see the active lava fountain at Kilauea's summit, then we drove back to walk through the Thurston Lava Tube. Being with FIL, we took the scooter and stored it at the Hoppa on Hoppa off office (VERY close to the pier, the first business past the port gate. For $39 they took us to several tourist sites (Chocolate & coffee shop gives a commision to NCL and was not a bad stop, but Not worth a long visit, all the other stops were well worth the short time spent at them. Hilo was the next port. No agency had six-passenger vehicles (according to their web sites), so we again had two cars reserved. Based on our experience in the previous port, we did not expect to see rental car shuttles taking people to airport to find their cars and we were correct.
