We took a bus to downtown and got swindled by the locals. As you get off the bus they swipe you away to their booth and you get bombarded by vendors surrounding you trying to sell their goods. It's next to impossible to escape them and even if you do buy they still rip you off by not giving back exact money. You want to escape so badly that you really don't even care anymore! ...

Terrible port! I didn't hear of anyone getting off the ship to do any excursions in La Romana, let alone find a beach. Our cruise stopped here and left at 2pm leaving hardly any time to do anything. We just walked out to the main area and walked back.
