Auckland is known as the City of Sails and is very much a modern city but nothing to make it different or outstanding from say Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne. Did not take any excursions as we were meeting a friend there. However, the waterfront and the city itself has been modernised from when I visited many years ago.
