We were to stop in Sorrento, but due to the seas being a little rough and the winds strong, Captain Rutigliano up anchored and we docked in Naples instead.
In Naples once ashore we hired "Salvatore" our taxi driver for 3 hours to show us around Naples. This is a good option for Naples, as some of the streets are extremely narrow and the large tourists buses cannot get into them. The cost of the taxi was only E70 for the cab for the 3 hours and Salvatore has great local knowledge and we were able to suit ourselves how long we wanted to stay in each place. Naples is not a clean city, and you have to be careful with your bag.
We docked in Palermo.Silver Sea provided bus transport to town. Nice clean town, good sightseeing Palace etc easily seen by walking through town. Markets
We were tendered in here. There is a great hop on hop off bus service for this town of Valetta. The 3 hours trip for the North side of island is E10pp then you can go back to the ship for lunch and after lunch do the other hop on hop off bus trip of the South side of the island for another E10pp. Great value, but take a hat as very warm in late May.
Also Silver Sea did a wonderful BBQ dinner on deck overlooking Valetta that night before we set sail.
Here at the dock we took a taxi driver "Spiros" for 2 hours for E80. He took us all over the island. the Monestary, Blue Grotto Beach, 21st May, 2011 was National Day so there was a street parade very colorful with everyone in national dress. Also we visited a wine maker and tasted Cumquart Liquor , olive oil and olives.
