Isabelle Prentice's Port Reviews of Singapore, Bangkok (Laem Chabang), Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hanoi, Hong Kong Azamara Quest cruise in January 2012
We chose to do a tour on the 2nd day as having travelled so far wanted to rest until then. We visited Kings Palace Emerald Buddha etc but feel a shorter trip would have been better as we had wanted to shop but had little time left following the tour
What a vibrant city, did a tour here which was excellent. Took our life in our hands as we visited the night market crossing the roads, thousands of motorbikes and as you cross they just go around you. Takes a leap of faith but it works.
Nothing to say except get out to Hoi an wonderful time visited marble factory ate lunch at Cargo, asked a tailor to make a dress, skirt (suede) 3 pairs linen trousers silk jacket and all were delivered to ship 2.30. hours later and were perfect.Although fairly small walked along the markets and visited a taoist temple.
Halong bay not Hanoi but unable to see this choice. This was like a building site so much work being done roads muddy and as arrived on Sunday little open.
We did a tour on the Monday which made up for the disappointment, through the volcanic islands to the caves which were amazing. You have to be fairly fit as a hundred steps to climb but worth the effort.
Another amazing city as we docked the skyline looked very futuristic, the height of the buildings and so modern. We took our final tour here to the Peak magnificent views over Hong Kong.Onto Aberdeen and sailed around the harbour amongst yachts and boat people drying their fish on a washing line. The rich and poor living side by side. Next stop Stanley Market famous bu I felt better bargains elsewhere
