Great port with plenty to see & do. No problem getting off ship & was able to see all that I had planned. This is a lovely city & area. Took the TCP hop on hop off bus for 20 euros which was great. Only problem we had was when we took local bus to Monreale monastery it was closed for lunch break. Should have planned my time better. Will go back here.
Another super port. Ship is docked next to rail & buses to Tel Aviv. Arrived here on Friday morning. In the evening & next day all public transportation is shut. Have to use cheruts which are minivans that are like small buses. They tend to rip off tourists unless you really bargain with them. We were here overnight. Went to Tel Aviv by rail & very lovely city to visit. Next day visited Haifa & B'hai Temple grounds & on to Acre which is a walled, old town on the coast north of Haifa. Really great place to visit. Cheruts tried to rip us off again by charging 200 euros (over $275) for trip there & back but were able to find local cheruts that charged 14 sheckles each way which is about 2 dollars. They really try to take advantage of tourist, especially cruise passengers. They think we have money to burn. Port is great, transportation people the pits. Other locals were very nice.
The port is really Ashdod which is worst I've visited. This is not a cruise port but a commercial port. The cruise lines use this port to save money. It is 1/3 the cost of Haifa & they also save one nights port charges. Takes 45 minutes to get to bus station in Ashdod & 1+ hr to get to bus station in Jerusalem. Then it takes another 20-60 minutes to get to Jaffa gate in Old Jerusalem. One of problem was due to fact that we visited on major holiday. Took 3 hrs each way between port & Jaffa gate. Old Jerusalem is wonderful & fascinating. Saw most of the major sites here but didn't have time to visit other parts of Jerusalem. We were here overnight so 2 days in the city. Will come back here some time in the future but never back to this port.
Always a great port. Ship was docked away from town so had to take a shuttle. OK but little inconvenient. Wandered around town since I've been here before. Weather was super. Bought some organic honey at new store here.
Been here several time & decided to visit the fish market & town. Was ok but not as good as other cities. Town is old & interesting. Also took ferry to Capri & visited Anacapri for first time. Really a highlignt. Went to Villa San Michele which was awesome. This was owned by a doctor who collected sculpture & art work from Italy & Greece. The village was also very charming. Highly recommended.
