Although it was an overcast day, we went to the Dn Q rum store right next to CVS near the pier and got a wonderful free sample. Then we went to the free trolley to the fort. We did the tour of the fort since since it was raining and could not do the beach. They had a nice pre tour film explaining much of what the exhibits explained. It was a nice movie. We walked around a bit and got to see the fortress which is a lot more than it looks from the inside.
This is a beautiful island with lots to do. Besides the beautiful beaches they have a lot of adventure activities to do. We did the Segway tour and enjoyed it very much, even in the rain. We were given rain ponchos and off we went.
The bus system is easy if you want to hop on a bus to the beach. The town is right there by the port to shop in. Cabs are readily available.
it is wonderful to get to these more southern islands on a cruise. This lush island is brimming with things to do. Friends went to the Grand Anse beach with the water taxi and found it delightful. We did kayaking tour. Others did the spice tours. What ever you do, buy spices here. They are wonderful and fresh.
The port here is a walk to town with very few cabs available. We walked into town and hired a cab for about 3.5 hours to take us to La Paz rum distillery, Mt Pele, and other sights. It was ok. It also rained. Once in the rainforest area and up in elevation it poured.
The people here do not need tourists and we felt that very much. They do not line up and offer tours nor do they bother you in that respect. You are looked at as a bother being there.
It is not easy to get directions unless you speak french which a friend of ours did and he translated.
Although the town is beautiful with its architecture this is a port that I would not mind missing, although I did see the countryside and it was beautiful.
Next time I would just go to one of the black sand beaches that we saw on our way back from our tour.
We love this port. So much to do and then again, easy to just walk to the beach near the port and all the wonderful shops are right there. Beach vendors are there too and we enjoyed shopping with them too. We got 2 chairs, umbrella and 5 drinks for 20$. We traded in the beer, water or soda for 2 pina coladas which were very good. We love this port and would have liked to spend more time here. Very short port time is our our negative thing to say about this. Would have liked a longer stay here and skip the Nassau stop.
Easy to get off and get into town but the straw market was under repair so they had it in the streets lined up and it was hard to get around. Junkanoo beach is the closest and easiest to get to on a short port day like we had. 1-6 is the time we had and we were late getting in. Because of this I think they left a bit later and then rearranged dining times for this evening.
