Tendering from the ship was easy and we were on Catalina Island within a few minutes. We walked around the main streets, it was early and very few stores were opened at this time. We walked to the Casino building and just looked around at the small store inside it. We decided to rent a golf cart ($40 cash for one hour and a $40 cash deposit - seats up to 4) Beware they don't take credit cards or checks. You will also need your drivers license so if you want to do this make sure to bring them off the ship. They also have a golf cart that will seat up to 6 people. Followed the map they gave us and enjoyed seeing the sights from different elevations. It was worth the money in my opinion and very easy to drive. After looking around a bit more we headed back to the ship for lunch and naps. We didn't buy anything but we are not souvenir shoppers.
We walked off the ship about 10 AM. Instead of booking any excursion we knew we would just walk around the town and then head back to the ship. We walked to town vs. taking the shuttle for $2.00 per person. It is a short and safe walk. We walked many of the streets looking in the stores and talking to the vendors. We ended up in the harbor area and were offered a harbor cruise by a local for a fantastic price. It lasted about 40 minutes and we saw the local sea lions, drove past our ship and around the port area looking at the ships and more. A fun way to spend a bit of time. We headed back to the ship after that and had lunch followed by another quick nap.
