Just wandered the streets. Lots of interesting shops. Most of the duty free items are not bargains. Ate a $85 lunch at Senor Frogs. Very mediocre fish tacos with sweet cole slaw and no cilantro, ugh. Waiters kept popping balloons (like firecrackers) despite our asking them not to. My daughter screamed bloody murder after the first and wept uncontrollably. Probably not a problem for a typical kid.
If you go to the beach take the water taxi. My daughter refused because of the rocking and rolling, but the regular taxis will take you to the public beach where the drunk locals will harass you with $5 coconuts and slices of Aloe that you don't want. Grand Aceh beach was beautiful though. The slope is steep so water gets deep quickly. Keep an eye on the kids.
We did the sting ray excursion here. It was great and the Stingray are cool. Say hi to Lucinda for us (one of the Ray). Watch out for the rum punch, it's wicked.
They don't need nor care about Cruiseline income. Would not take US dollars nor credit. Wife looked at small leather change purse that would be $1.50 most places. Shop wanted $9. Could have skipped this stop.
Beautiful island and accommodating. We did the Catamaran and snorkel excursion. Snorkeling was terrible. Nothing to see and crew member on dingy limiting your movement in the water to a very small lifeless area. The beach was beautiful but far from "deserted". Lots of rum punch was the highlight.
Just kicked around the town near the boat. Daughter had her hair braided inexpensively. Duty free items are no bargain. Couldn't find quality island made products here. Mostly Chinese and Indonesian trinkets.
