SurpriseAZCruiser's Port Reviews of Madeira (Funchal), Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Tenerife, St. Thomas, San Juan Adventure of the Seas cruise in November 2011
A very pretty port with hills that come down almost to the ocean. Homes are built into the hills and valleys. The city itself was clean and very easy to navigate.
This island has its own beauty! For a desert island, it's beautiful, and has some breathtaking views. It would be hard to see without taking an excursion.
We enjoyed visiting Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Although this is a large city, it was clean and the people were very friendly. This is another place that one needs to take an excursion to make the most of it.
Take an excursion and see more of the island. It's about 2 1/2 miles from the dock to the city and it's not a pretty walk. The city itself is past its prime with many empty shops and lots of hustle and bustle. This isn't a clean city like it used to be and the majority of the shops are jewelry stores. Not much of a variety with all showing the same merchandise and everyone has the "best price".
Another city that is past its prime. We stayed in Old San Juan for a couple of days after the cruise and took the time to explore Old San Juan. Fortaleza Street used to be clean and busy. Now it's just busy when the ships are in and there are a lot of empty shop spaces.
We would recommend visiting Old San Juan a first time but wouldn't recommend a second visit. This was our 4th or 5th visit.
