We spent 2 weeks in Barcelona before the cruise and would go back for another 2 weeks with no hesitation at all. Beautiful city, great public transportation and numerous areas to explore.
We booked an independent taxi tour with an english speaking driver at the pier when we got off the ship. About 1/2 the price of a Carnival shore excursion, only 4 of us so we didn't have to wait for 45 other people and he took us to all the places we requested during our 5 hour tour. Beautiful island, very diverse areas and great beaches.
Large industrial island with most of the shops/tourist areas still not rebuilt from 2004/2005 hurricanes. Major resort areas block access to most of the best beaches and the one beach that is accessible is average. 45 minute shuttle ride from pier to main tourist/shopping area and nothing special there, same shops you see in every Caribbean port.
