The excursion to Monserrat amazing. We had heard many negative things about Barcelona but found it a vibrant, happening city. We had no trouble with pickpockets and felt quite safe when going to the markets and Tivoli light and water show.
Little time ashore due to high swell. We had already been to Nice the previous week when we drove along the Riviera. We found it over rated and expensive.
Guide wasn't very good and lost half the group when she rushed off. Tower of Piza was disappointing. Florence easy to walk around but try to avoid all the market sellers.
Wonderful day, great guide, very informative. Walked all over Rome and saw everything possible in 8 hours. Amazing city with so much to see and so little time. We will return- threw a coin in the Trevi to make sure!
The Acropolis was wonderful and we enjoyed walking around the old parts of Athens. Only complaint was public transport was on strike so we were limited with our time as the cruise had arranged some transport back to the ship.
We were pleasently surprised, had not heard much about it. Bargained for a taxi driver- 50 euros for the day . He took us to Epheses waited 2 hours for us then took us on a tour around the city and coastline. Good place to bargain in the marketplace. Felt quite safe. Epheses should not be missed it's one of the Seven wonders of the World.
Great disappointment, had heard so many good things from friends. Found the town dirty - rubbish and cigarette butts abounding. We hired a quad bike (30 euros) and explored the island. Many of the homes are empty and only half finished and there was an air of depression away from the main town. There were long queues to go back down to the ship (an hour wait) so we had to walk down the very slippery 900 plus steps and avoid the donkeys coming up,
Did the walk up Mt Vesuvius (only for the fit) and then on to Pompeii. Found it all a bit hurried and would have like longer to explore. Will have to go back again.
