Ho Chi Minh City
Port Rating:
As there didn't seem to be much alternative, except book an expensive ships tour, we booked the ships coach to Ho Chi Minh City on a "do your own tour'" The drive in took at least 2 to 2 1/2 hours. that was an experience in itself, with the myriads of bike and scooter riders, carrying their wares. Leaving only a few short hours to look around as well as have lunch, we were back on the bus to go back to the ship.

Bangkok (Laem Chabang)
Port Rating:
Another long drive into Bangkok from Laem Chabang Port using the ship's shuttle [at a charge of course] . We decided to take a river boat cruise. When we arrived a the Hotel which was our base, we then transferred to a smaller mini bus to go to the river. But of course you can't go past the ubiquitous gem and jewellery shop, so another hour later we were back on the bus heading towards the river. Another nearly 2 hours later, after being stuck in horrendous traffic jams, we finally arrived . 6 other people on this bus then pulled out , thinking we wouldn't make it back to the hotel in time. We decided to take the risk, and it was fantastic. It was interesting to see the way the people live with their meagre houses perched over the canals, such a divide between rich and poor in these Asian countries. We bought a beer from the floating markets and back to where we started from. We caught a taxi back to the hotel, this time only taking 1/2 an hour, had lunch at the hotel and back on the bus for the long drive back to the ship.

Kuala Lumpur
Port Rating:
This time the drive into the city was 1 1/2 hours, again using the ships bus. We wandered around the expensive Pavilion shopping complex, wasting time exchanging currencies and then not seeing anything we really wanted to buy, as it was way too expensive. We decided to hire a taxi to take us to do a bit of sightseeing. Went to the Petronas Towers for a photo stop, then on to KL Tower, where we took the lift for a look over the city. Then on to Chinatown, but not finding much to spend our money on. Then back to catch the ships bus to go back. KL is a very modern city and warrants a longer visit.

Singapore
Port Rating:
Singapore was definitely the highlight of this cruise. Living up to the expectations we had heard about, we really enjoyed our day. We [6 of us] experienced the things we wanted to do. We hired a 7 seater for the day, went on a river cruise, went to Changi Memorial and had Chilli crab amongst other delicious morsels for lunch. Went to Raffles Hotel [ but no Singapore sling], with just enough time to off load some Singapore dollars before boarding the ship again, for an 8pm sail. All in all, a great day.
