We chose Taormina On Your Own tour. We joined a bus from the port and drove approximately 30 mins to this beautiful hilltop town of Taormina. We had approximately 3 hours on our own to wander. Lovely shops, boutiques and cafes to take advantage of.
Wonderful amphatheatre with beautiful views out to sea. Also a gondola goes from the town below to the beach - great for a swim in the clear blue Mediterranean.
Joined a tour on the bus from the port to the Parthenon/Acropolis which was wonderful. Great views from here over the city of Athens.
Following this we were given 3 hours to wander the area of The Plaka - small shops and markets. Great for small gifts to take home and trying some local cuisine.
Also at the end of the tour attended a Turkish Carpet demonstration - interesting but did not buy anything.
Returning to the ship there was a few hours left for a wander around the lovely port of Kusadasi. Waterfront promenade with cafes and shops and an area of marketplace stalls and shops.
Port of Souda - caught bus into town of Chania. The local bus had buses running every 10 mins from the port to Chania and vice versa. The return price per person was Euro 3.00
The old town of Chania is just delightful with a maze of small alleyways and streets full of shops, markets and cafes. To top it all off - the most quaint Venetian Harbour encircled by cafes and restaurants.
