Our favourite. It is a cute little town, very photogenic. We had read here to do our shopping in Ketchikan. Good advice. Being the last cruise of the season everything was on sale, half-price or less. We bought all our presents for the grandkids and some fleecy jackets for ourselves. Sure enough, prices went up in the next two ports. Probably would have rated it 5 if it hadn't been raining so hard.
Pouring rain! We took a local bus tour to the Mendenhall Glacier. $32.00 for the two of us as opposed to $100 for the NCL tour. The glacier is spectacular, and there is an interesting visitor centre. There were bears around but we see them at home so didn't wait to get soggy. Back in Juneau we took shelter from the rain in the Red Dog Saloon. That is well worth a visit, takes you back to the wild old days.
Still raining! This was the only port where we took an official NCL tour. We took the White Pass and Yukon Railway to the summit and back. (There were several different variations of rail and bus available.) If you love views and taking photos of them, sit on the left going up. We were on the inside going up and although you change sides going down, the rain and clouds had closed in and we could not see the 1000 ft. drops down to the river below. Coming back down the train goes faster and there is not so much time for photos.
You guessed it - it rained! We took a little bus tour and saw the town. That was about it. Nothing very exciting even though it is one of western Canada's busiest ports.
