The weather in this port was the only disappointing weather we experienced. It was windy and rainy, very rainy. We booked through Shore Trips a crab fishing experience. It was great. You are taken out on refitted "Deadliest Catch" fishing boat that has stadium style seating installed. All the seating is covered and area is even heated. Some personalities from the Discovery show were on board and made presentations. A wonderful experience that I highly recommend.
We also booked this excursion through Shore Trips. This was the best excursion of the trip. We took a small plane flight right from the dock area through the glaciers and landed on the Taku river where we disembarked. The staff barbecues a salmon dinner for about 50 people, which was very good. You have time to walk and explore (and of course shop in the gift shop). We did see bears, which came a little too close. This is a not to be missed experience if you stop in Juneau. We booked this as 3 port package, so I'm not exactly sure how much it cost.
This was also a beautiful town. We, like most of the other passengers, took the train trip into the Canadian Rockies. It was beautiful (I keep saying this, but it's true). We booked the package in which you take the train up the mountains and a small bus down. There is time to spend in town which is exactly like you would think an Alaska town would be. Very cute.
I wish we had more time to spend in Seattle. What a nice city. We stayed at the Warwick Hotel. The hotel has a perfect location, within easy walking distance of the Pike Street Market and the Space Needle. It is also close to shopping and many, many restaurants. I think the hotel could use some updates, but it was comfortable with good service and the restaurant was good. We didn't find a bad restaurant in Seattle, in fact, the ones we tried were all excellent. I don't think you can find bad salmon in Seattle.
