Don MacPhee's Port Reviews of Barcelona, Villefranche, Naples, Corsica (Ajaccio), Rome (Civitavecchia), Tunis (La Goulette) Celebrity Silhouette cruise in August 2011
Easy walk to the main port area and safe as well even late at night. Easy walk to many excellent port restaurants and a short trip by taxi or bus to the many beaches well worth visiting. Likewise to the main shopping area downtown. All manageable within a one day stop-over.
A pleasant French seaside village with interesting restaurants and many private boats. Colourful buildings and despite being August not overly crowded with tourists.
While the port of Naples is not recommended nor Naples itself, it is strongly recommended to book a car to go to the Amalfi Coast and have lunch ..the views are spectacular.
The port of Rome, Civitavecchia, leaves much to be desired other than serving as a port city and offering some quality accommodation for reasonable prices and restaurants close to the debarkation area of the port. Otherwise not a recommended destination!
Not worth visiting for beauty or architecture but to experience a real developing country. Port is however very immaculate ..in fact perhaps more so than some developed country ports!
