Taormina (Messina)

We celebrated my 50 birthday in Sicily, Messina, Taormina. Took a taxi to Taormina and went to the beach there. Clean beautiful water, and definitely worth it. We paid 240 Euro, but we didn't agree on a price before we left Messina (the port)and the driver waited for us for one and a half hour in Taormina.

On the day we arrived in Athens there was a Taxi strike in Greece. We wanted to o to Glyfada, which is a part of Athens and has a great beach-promenade. We walked from the ship to the end of the pier, and found a bus station further along the way. There were buses that went to Glyfada, but we decided not to go, as everything was uncertain due to the strike.

We had our daughter with us, and she had a broken leg, so we didn't want to go on an excursion. We asked somebody as we got off the ship, and were told of something called The Jade Beach Club. It was great! Only three-five minutes away by taxi (ca 5 Euro). We payed 10 Euro pr person, children were free. It was clean and elegant with sofas, sunbeds, umbrellas, big open tents with large cushions in them to relax on, hammocks and more, even playground. There was a restaurant, but one can order food where you lay. The water is clear and green, and the sand is more like little stones, but not sharp.

The port of call is Souda, close to Chania. We went to a beach approx. 10 min. east of Chania where the sand was wonderful and the ocean clean and green. RCCL had shuttles going from the ship to Chania, 1,50 Euro one way. Taxi to C. is 11 Euro.
