Funchal was having their flower festival with a float parade at 4 pm (Sunday). Ship docked at 2 pm. Traffic congestion (both vehicle & pedestrian was extreme). I had wanted to walk to the other side of town to get the cable car up to Monte which I did, but it was a chore to do this. I was also disappointed upon reaching the top in the view, but mainly because the church was closed & the baskets to ride down the hill were not operating. My husband took the city tour (FNC-290-$55)(actually an island tour) & was very satisfied with it.

We ported in Cadiz & did not see the port due to lengthy tour to Seville (Alcazar, Cathedral & Santa Cruz quarter - #CA1-100). It is a 90-min. coach ride to Seville & does involve some walking as buses are not allowed in narrow streets where sites are. The tour was postponed 1 1/2 hrs. due to the Cathedral being closed until early afternoon. This also necessitated changing the order of the tour & some repeated walking areas. The guide was excellent & the visit to the gothic Cathedral de Seville with the immense quantity of gold leaf was worthwhile. La Plaza de Espana (built in 1921 for an exhibition (world's fair) was also very worthwhile.

The port of Alghero is rarely visited by cruise ships & does require tendering which was handled well by Princess. The tour was Church of San Francesco & Nuraghe Palmavera (AHO-240). Though we did go to the prehistoric Palmavera site, our guide did not conduct the tour well - she didn't keep a time schedule & didn't inform participants in advance of what we'd be doing. She was knowledgable of the site, but many didn't follow her to hear her lecture. The Church was closed, but we did enter another church which was interesting. The visit to Cape Caccia was good, except that we thought we would go to the point for views & did not. Princess did a partial refund of this tour ($55).

Rome is a 90-min. coach ride from Civitavecchia & we did tour ROM-380, Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona & St. Peter's Sq. This was a walking tour & we had been to Rome last summer (did the hop on-hop off bus & a Vatican Museum-Sistine Chapel tour) so this tour got us to sites we missed before. The guide was good & lunch was included. We had time to enter St. Peter's & see things our tour last year did not include. $149

We took a private (8 person minivan) tour of Pisa & Florence. There was a mini Grand Prix taking place in Florence & this made it difficult to walk around as streets were closed & numerous spectators lined them especially near the Ponte Vecchio bridge. We visited the Academia (where Michelangelo's David is displayed), but didn't have much time for any other museum/gallery or shopping.

We visited on a Sunday anchoring at 7:30 am. & sailing at 2 pm. This did not allow any one to enter the casino as it does not open until 3 p.m. Many were disappointed. Our tour was Old Monaco, Royal Palace & St. Nicholas Cathedral. The Royal Palace was very worthwhile (using audio headsets) & Princess Grace & Prince Ranier were married & are buried in the Cathedral. For those whose tour was later & the church closed then, Princess did offer a partial refund. $59
