They were just putting on the finishing touches to the Cruise Ship Terminal, very nice. Easy to travel on your own around the city, maps in both Japanese and English. Buses and trams easy to use. Felt very safe. Even found a restaurant where the menu was in both languages with pictures. Real easy to order a light snack.
Took the Princess Tour around the city, then went wandering on our own. Found the people to be very helpful and friendly. Would like to go back here and then head inland for some more exploring. Sad to hear that a Cyclone hit Darwin the day after we left. Did quite a bit of damage.
We took the 8.5 hr. tour of the Harbor, Aberdeen, city, by boat, bus, sampan. Saw a lot of this place. The ship tied up in the Container Port due to it's size, but I found this to be very interesting. I have never seen a port that was so big, with so many containers, all moving around 24/7. Our guide said they move 2 million containers in and out each month. I watched for 1.5 hrs. from our balcony in the late evening before departure, just fascinated at how much was going on. Walking around one feels very safe.
