Singapore
Port Rating:
We arrived early and stayed at the Fairmont. We did a Night Safari Tour with Viator, and met other cc's at Raffles Long Bar before we embarked. Singapore is spotless, and the people are the nicest we have met anywhere in the world. It is extremely commercial with malls on almost every block, but it is also filled with different fascinating cultures. We spent some time on the waterfront areas, some in the Arab section, and some in Little India. We used the public subway which was easily navigated and cheap. If I had to do it again, I would stay 3 nights pre/post cruise instead of two. The Fairmont was beautiful and in a great location for touring. This is the only port I'd consider returning to.

Bangkok (Laem Chabang)
Port Rating:
We docked in Klong Toey much closer to downtown. We took a private tour to Ayutthaya outside of Bangkok. Very impressive, informative and fun. The second day we took a ship's excursion to the Grand Palace and the canals. Again impressive, informative and fun.

Ho Chi Minh City
Port Rating:
Saigon is bustling and crowded. We did a private tour of the city. Lots of culture and local color. On the second day we did did the Cu Chi Tunnels. Fascinating look at the war. Be prepared to view a movie made in 1967 that is communist propaganda. Incidentally about 40% of the population of Vietnam were not alive in 1975 when America pulled out.

Da Nang
Port Rating:
We took a private tour of Hoi-An, a small village loaded with culture and beauty. We used Exotissimo travel for the three private tours and were very pleased with their service. 2 guides were excellent and the third was good.

Hanoi
Port Rating:
We did a Hanoi Past and Present Tour from the Ship. It was very long, but worth it. Got to see the Hanoi Hilton. We were really surprised by how capitalist Hanoi is. Second day we did the Halong Bay boat ride which had spectacular scenery and a great cave visit.

Hong Kong
Port Rating:
Hong Kong is crowded. We were constantly being hawked by tailors, and watch sellers. We used Graylines to do the highlights. The guide was good, but because of New Years celebrations everything was jammed, and the people were not like the people of Singapore. By this time we were exhausted from non stop touring and maybe unduly critical. We stayed at the Panorama Hotel which was wonderful, but nobody knew about.
