We chose to do our own activities here. Took free "Shark" shuttle bus to Kelly Tarltons Aquarium in the morning. This included a penguin enclosure - very good. Thankfully we prepurchased entry tickets at the tourist info office close to the ships dock otherwise the entry line was huge. We then travelled back again via the free shuttly and were dropped off at the Auckland tower. Went up to the observation decks for a great view then walked back to the ship.
I personally missed this port as I was confined to a cabin with a sick child. However, my wife had a fantastic day doing the "Lord of The Rings" tour plus visting the special effects studio.
Nice city centre. Unfortunately had to pay for a shuttle bus to get there from the port. Small but pleasant market in the main square. We took a free shuttle bus to the Antarctic Centre near the airport. Penguins, 4D movie experience and Hagglund ride.
Once again we did our own touring. We originally planned to do some wildlife sightseeing to see the Albatros colony, penguins and seals. However misinformation provided by the on board port expert meant that what I had planned became too hard to arrange at the last minute. The weather was quite cold and drizzly the day we visited so was not ideal to be outside anyway. To keep the kids occupied we visted the Otago museum which was very good with lots of hands on exhibits. Earlier in the day we booked a tour of the Cadbury factory which we undertook in the afternoon before returning to the ship. A shuttle bus was again needed to get from the port (Port Chalmers)to Dunedin at extra cost.
