Sorrento is a beautiful port city!! We booked a private tour with ap tours - we spent 1 1/2 hours at Herculaneum (2 would have been better). Then drove to Positano and had lunch at a lovely family trattoria on the side of a cliff. He then took us to view a hand painted tile factory and wandered around the town of Sorrento before dropping us off right by the tender. A wonderful day!!
We also visited the port of Zadar, Croatia on this cruise. On both ports, we wandered around on our own and found the towns to be delightful. In Dubrovnik, we walked the walls (apparently we walk pretty fast, took us a little less than an hour). Then had a snack at a restaurant wedged in an alley. Beautiful water and beautiful City.
We booked an all day private tour for the two of us. Very expensive and worth every penny!! When comparing notes with others on our ship that had taken ships tours - it was obvious we saw much more than they were able to.... Vatican - St. Peter's Basilica & Sistine Chapel, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Roman Forum, Spanish Steps, Circus Maximus, several churches...and even had time for a 1 1/2 hour fabulous lunch!! Usually I don't like touristy spots, but Francesca of Rome Connection made this day on of the hightlights of our life!!
Took ship tour "Independent Florence" - which was mostly just a bus ride over. Florence was lovely, but I felt this tour wasted a lot of time stopping for restrooms and at leather factories...I would have rather spent all the time in Florence. Was an impressive city!!
We walked to old Monaco and got there in time to see the changing of the guard - which was interesting. We toured the Palace and the Napoleon artifacts museum. Had a nice lunch right on the square. Relaxing day and lovely day.
Ship spent the night in St. Tropez - we just walked around the town - found some nice gifts. Got chocolate croissant to take back to the ship yummy!! On Tuesday morning, we wen to the local market - it was huge and filled an entire park area. I found it to be fascinating and quite a lot of fun!! Beautiful port - but very busy
