We ended up doing two different things in this port. We had pre-booked a Segway tour with shoretrips.com. The meeting point was within walking distance from the Punta Maya dock at AllPro. I loved doing the Segway! You do have to be in decent shape and have decent balance and no health issues (we are 42 years old). This was our first time doing a Segway and I will do this again somewhere. Be careful because they can go much faster than I thought. They were professional and I felt safe (a truck followed behind us). Since we were the only two on the tour, we were able to adjust it, so we did. Instead of stopping at and snorkeling at the Americana Fiesta hotel (which did look nice, small but nice), we rode to Chankanaab, which was about 20 min. more on the Segway. We then spent the day there. I did the Discover Scuba for the first time, from the shore, about a 20 foot dive with no certification needed. I was always too scared to try this but did this time and loved it. There are little huts on the beach to sign up for this. You do not have to pre book. It cost about $60 for 50 minutes of dive time. It started raining very hard so we actually did the scuba in the rain. Once you go down about 5 feet, the rain doesn't make any difference at all. It rained a while but we had a great time. We sat at the open air restaurant at Chankanaab and watched the rain. It was actually very nice, not hot, and still very beautiful. We have been to Chankanaab many times and always love it there.

We booked a private tour. We wanted to try something different but did not want to drive too far out. We hired a driver through Yucatan Transportation but Christine Baker, the lady that owns the wonderful restaurant, Casa De Piedra at Hacienda Xcanatun hotel, booked the driver for us because she said that she gets much better rates. We paid $80 total for my husband and I for a wonderful driver, all day, to take us first to Dzibilchanaltun ruins, then to eat and walk around the beautiful hotel and restaurant, then a quick stop to the Walmart there (interesting to see a Walmart in another country). It takes about 25 minutes to get to the ruins then another 5 to get to the restaurant so it was a perfect combination. The restaurant and hotel is a former sisal plantation (a Hacienda) that was restored by a couple that takes such pride in this beautiful place (her name is Christin Baker, hacienda@xcanatun.com). The food was excellent (restaurant has won many award) and our bill in US dollars was $47! Then they took us on a tour of the grounds (very lush and beautiful). She said that they can't do large group tours (like tours from the ship) but they like to do small groups and couples. They also have a spa there so you can book that in advance with her. We loved this place. The website is www.xcanatun.com It was peaceful, had great food and an interesting history. We also loved the ruins and did swim in the cenote, even though I was reluctant. The water looked green because it was the rainy season. It was hot at the ruins so go prepared. The swim felt great. Also, these are great ruins to visit if you don't want to travel too far and walk too much while there.

We think this is one of the greatest cities in the country. We love eating breakfast at Mother's restaurant on Poydras. We also like Drago's in the Hilton for the grilled oysters. Also, Deannies has great food.
