We took the tender ashore and walked to the Breakers (1.8 miles) A little long walk but we got there by 9:30 am. We purchased the 5 mansion ticket for $31.00 ea. (best value if you are going to see at least 3 mansions) You have to see inside at least on of the big mansions (or cottages as the owners called them.) The outside is grandiose but inside will take your breathe away! It's worth the time to see at least one of them. We saw 4 (Breakers, Rosecliff, Marble House, the Elms)Each was magnificent. We walked to each one which was about a 4 mile walk in the day. There is a metro bus that goes to each one and costs $1.75 per ride. Just jump on and off as you wish.
The port in Boston is off the beaten path. There is a metro bus (Silver Line 2) that you can take for $2.00 cash and then transfer at South Station to other lines. You cannot walk from port to anything really. We went to the Adams National Park in Quincy to see the President John Adams and John Quincy Adams homes. Very interesting if you like historical homes as the most the objects in the home are the original belongings of the Adam's.
Very foggy when we arrived. We took Olie's 2 1/2 tour of Acadia National Park which was very interesting. (tour guide was very good except for when he berated a passenger for being late very unprofessional)You can arrange those tours on line and pick up your ticket right at the dock for $29.00 pp.
Bar Harbor is very beautiful town and the park is magnificent. Be sure and take some kind of ride into the park. Bar Harbor was our favorite stop.
The port is right in town and you can walk to many things. Not as an attractive downtown as other places but people make you feel welcomed. Nice little tent with booths for shopping in as you arrive or depart. We walked to the Loyalist House which was interesting. We checked our email at the Library for free.
Ship docks in town and it has a very nice boardwalk along the shore with shops and tour posibilites. Went to the Maritime Museum which is along the boardwalk and saw Titanic exhibit. We walked by the Citadel (fort) and up to the public gardens. They are very beautiful and great place to stroll. Town was very pretty and tourist friendly.
