Loved this port. The Vatican city was wonderful. We took a tour where we were just dropped off and explored on our own. The tour guide should have speeded things up as we got off because people just wanted to go but they had to wait to be told where to meet (near a shop) but the bus was parked in the same place as we had gotten off so this was pointless, we could have jsut met at the bus. Some really nice cafes behind the Vatican. We didn't have to wait in line to enter the Vatican as we had a wheelchair which is very handy to know but the tour guide didn't tell us this even though we asked, it was a person passing by us that said to just bypass the queue. The streets were easy enough to negotiate & people stopped to help if necessary.
Lovely place to visit. Pointless stop at a leather factory on the way to Florence that no-one bought from due to the inflated prices. Some of the side streets that the guide took us down were unsuitable for a wheelchair, even though she knew that we were there she didn't offer an alternative. Luckily I had a map and chose a different route back. I will visit here again as there was plenty to see & we didn't see most of it.
Nice & Cannes were beautiful and i would happily move over & live in either of them. One hazard for wheelchair users is that getting to the tour buses after the tender, which was great for wheelchairs, is a very very steep incline. The tour guide on the dock said that we should set off before the others but didn't mention the hill or offer any help. As we looked up the hill a young slight female ran down & offered to help us & it eventually took 3 of us to push the wheelchair up the hill. As we returned i chose to ask a fellow cruiser to help and again it took him, his wife and me to get the wheelchair down. This was the only problem as the guide and Nice / Cannes were fabulous!!
I can't find the port of Toulon, so i had to pick St. Tropez, which is near. The weather wasn't very good so we visited a couple of ports (Banary & Sandol) but only got of the coach once and chose to go for a driving tour instead, which was very pleasant and welcomed by everyone.
