We've been here before and it's beautiful, but too touristy for us. We went on a 4X4 tour of the desert which was very enjoyable. Ended at a little "ranchito" where we had homemade AUTHENTIC mexican food that was delicioso!!!
For us this is too big of a city, but we took an excursion that took us out of town to a small village it was great!! and we still had time to go shopping in the "golden zone" when we got back.
We love Puerto Vallarta! We swam with the dolphins!! It was incredible!! then we met some U.S. friends, that were there for a week, on the malecon (boardwalk/waterfront) had lunch and went shopping. It was raining so we didn't go to the beach, which is beautiful.
Accapulco for us was a "been there, done that" port. Another big city, kind of dirty. We saw the cliff divers, excellent show. Then our tour guide (city tour) showed us all the hotels and resorts and night clubs!! Blah, blah, blah! So this excursion was half good, half bad. The guide made it bad by talking mainly about the hotels and resorts instead of more history and culture.
Would love to go there again. We went to Isla Ixtapa, went snorkeling at Coral Beach, it was beautiful! Had a decent lunch of local cuisine. Walked on some the trails and had a really great time! When we returned to Zihuatanejo we had plenty of time to shop and found lots of bargains.
