Alexandria is a modern industrial city. It is really a gateway for tours to Cairo. I would not recommend going into Alexandria as it's just not that sort of port that you can stroll around in.
As we had been to Jordan before we decided just to take the free transfer into Aqaba. If you had wanted to negotiate a trip to Wadi Rum or Petra there were lots of taxi drivers touting for business where the bus drops you off. We strolled around and went to the supermarket. We also went to a western cafe for a decent drink and to use the free wifi. Aqaba has a small beach which you can stroll along it was clean and sage and there was no hassle. The port also had a small duty free shop
There is only one reason to dock in Safaga that is to visit the Valley of the Kings/Luxor. It's a long day but worth it. The port itself is a real dirty old dive and that's being nice about it. There is no way you would venture off the ship unless you had a tour booked.
