Despite the Parthenon being enfolded in scaffolding, this is still one of the most wonderful cities in the world. And the new Archeological Museum (1 euro) is the bargain of the century.
may have just been our tour, but should have stayed on the ship; for a city of such historical import, this was very disappointing; and one of the most garbage ridden places I have ever been.
I have no idea why anyone would want to visit, let alone for two days--unless one is into conspicuous consumption. There were shuttle buses, but they only went to one of a variety of international style malls.
With all the hassles we had with visas, was beginning to wonder why we bothered. But what a fascinating city! Elephanta Caves are well worth the time for a visit.
Vastness of India is pointed up by the change in geography between here (almost tropical) and Mumbai. Too many things to see in the time we had, and considering that our ship for some reason was docked in the industrial area rather than with other cruise ships. Shuttle buses are apparently blocked by the local taxi unions.
