1st port Savona, Italy. We couldn't find a hire car here or a private guide so did the ship's tour to Monaco. Interesting, but very expensive for family. 2. Katakolon- arrived at 1pm to rain. Hired a car for easy drive to Olympia. I'd recommend this as it was much cheaper for a family. Apart from Olympia, nothing to do in Katakolon. Also in winter month's one should do the museum first if the ship arrives in the afternoon as it closes at 3.
Had a great day in Athens and as it was Sunday the acropolis was free! Caught taxi to acropolis to save time and paid about E20, but if using the meter properly it should be about E15. Be ware of touts charging much higher rates. I suggest anyone should visit the acropolis early before the hordes arrive.
Acropolis museum was only one euro but extremely crowded with metal detector queues. It is brand new and well worth a visit. Spent afternoon walking around with a local friend.
Lovely old town, full of history and quaint things to see. Just spent the day wandering around the medieval streets, although the palace was closed because it was Monday.
Nothing to do in Limassol so it is best to get a taxi to show the sights of Cyprus. In 5 hours we visited Kourion, Paphos, Aprhodite's rock and the Apollo sanctuary. Would have preferred a full day in this interesting country rather than 5 hours. Booked Chris tours but he wasn't there so I used Nickalus instead.
