The San Diego cruise port is a 50 year old warehouse that has seen better days. The "security" is a complete joke. I could have brought an RPG and a case of wine aboard without anyone noticing. When we returned a HAL ship also docked at the same time. The port can only handle one harbor tour boat not two 2000 passenger liners. It was mass chaos as all 4000 passengers attempted to find transportation, luggage, and their sanity. Once again customs was a joke; they simply collected your forms as you walked away with your $10,000 in cash and plants from Mexico. Do yourself a favor and keep your luggage and take it off the ship the day of disembarkation.
Great experience! People are very friendly, prices are good and the town is clean. There is the usual number of "tour guides" waiting for you but they give up quickly. Spend the day on the beach near a place that will sell you beer for a $1. I am ready to go back and stay a month.
