Santa Cruz is the port in Tenerife. Very easy to walk into town from the ship about 10 mins. But the three and a half hour tour is brilliant with an hour stop in the resort of Santa Cruz. We didnt fancy going up Mount Teide as we heard how freezing cold it is up there and that the cable car ride is hair raising!
We took the ships excursion up Fire Mountain. An unusual experience, volcanic landscape. Drive through the National Park, see how water turns to steam in three seconds shooting skywards up the blow holes. Feel how hot the pebbles beneath your feet are! See the hole in the ground where brush wood catches fire almost instantly. Good informative commentry. Learn how the earth first formed and is still forming! There is a volcanic island forming in the sea nearby!
Funchal is very steep. There is a cable car which is easy to get to by bus taxi or shore excursion. tobbogan ride down is expensive £25 for two people and they also expect a tip! Botanical Gardens are lovely.
La Palma is much less commercialised than the other canary islands. no high rise buildings just pastel coloured houses and shops with churches and squares also a small market. Very reasonable priced shopping. easy walking from ship.
had to put Las Palmas as the port because there wasnt a port for Agadir in Morocco.
We dont like being hassled to death by the constant barrage or sellers but some people handled it quite well and even enjoyed the experience. One word of warning though. Taxi drivers dont give change !!! arrange a fare and have the correct money ready. One passenger agreed a taxi fare of £10 but having only a £20 note paid the price!!! Not just that one taxi driver it seems that is normal.
