San Juan Purto Rico

San Juan was our least favorite port, but still enjoyable. We found the city to be kind of dirty and there was not a lot to see. When the boat docks, you get off right in Old San Juan. We took a horse and carriage ride for $60. It took us around the Old City and to the fort on the coast. We then walked around the city and there were shops and vendors selling many things. After we had made some purchases, we returned our goods to the ship and then took another tour. There were tour operators outside of the dock and we took a city tour for $10 per person. This was much more informative than the horse and carriage and included stops at the beach, city hall, and the fort.

Grand Turk Turks and Caicos

We purchased a shore excursion from Carnival for this port of call. Unfortunately, the snorkeling excursion we had signed up for was canceled. We went to the shore excursion desk and were rebooked on another snorkeling excursion. When we got off the ship at the Grand Turk dock we went snorkeling right away. The snorkeling excursion stopped at 2 places to snorkel and provided all gear and beverages. The snorkeling was not as good as other places we have snorkeled. There were not many fish and the colors were not nearly as vivid as other areas. After we snorkeled we walked around the dock area. It seemed that this was the only place to do anything on the island. It was very laid back and people were walking in and out of the shops in their bathing suits. We then sat on the beach in deck chairs that were provided. Grand Turk is known for its conch shells. We wish we had known you can find large ones for yourself if you walk down the beach a bit.
