We used to stay in Aruba, so we didn't take an excursion. The downtown area hasn't changed much-just a new and extremely expensive mall has been added in which not a soul was in a single store. We paid an exorbinate price for lunch for 3 of 75.00 including tip for 3 lunch maindishes, 1 beer, 1 soda at the Fisherman.

Unfortunately it was so hot, we did the downtown area, and went back to the ship. We had wanted to do a private taxi tour to see how things had changed, but the heat just got to us and since we could hardly breathe, we decided to call it a day.

Curacao - HaLexa2's Rating: 5.0

This excursion was the Jewish Heritage and History of Curacao tour. We first toured the Jewish cemetary next to the oil refineries, then the surrounding area, went to a home which is now a art museum, in which we talked to the owner whose family has owned it since the 1600's.

We then went to the synagogue which is the oldest open and working synagogue in the western hemisphere-the one with the sand on the floor, which covers a wood floor for preservation. It was fascinating and we thoroughly enjoyed our few hours in Curacao.

This excursion was not accurately rated by Royal Caribbean as to its difficulty. The steps were wet, muddy and mossy, with the heat and total lack of railings, made this climb up as well as down going both directions on the same steps very difficult, not one of our high points. When we got to the Trafalgar Falls, the sight was worth the climb, but very arduous, not a moderate climb.

The next place was the hot springs, which were driven past, so why did we have to climb up about 30 more stips? I don't know and I can't figure that one out! We stopped for fruit juice on the way back to the shipa nice touch, but we were really exhausted from the initial climb, the heat, and annoyed by the lack of accurate information from RC. We might have taken the same excursion, but we would have liked the truth from RC.

St. Thomas - HaLexa2's Rating: 3.0

We took a scenic, easy tour in a covered trolly-like large pick-up truck. It showed us the island, although the main spot of interest on this tour, a mountain-top hotel, burned down, recently, so that was missed.

We saw gorgeous bays, mountaintop homes, and many familiar shops. It did the trick, and we ourselves ended it with a banana daiquiri at a delightful bar right by the ship!It was a fine way to see St. Thomas & a view of St.John. My husband minded the bumpy truck, but I didn't mind it at all. The bumps added some quaintness to the tour!
