London (Dover)
Port Rating:
The (dis)embarkation port for this cruise. Mostly excellent. We came by car and parked fairly far away from the ship, but buses are frequent to take you right close after dropping your luggage off. Disembarkation was particularly smooth, where we simply walked off the ship with our bags and jumped in the bus to our car. A tip: Visit Dover Castle- it is really an excellent day out if you have time and is close to the port.

Copenhagen
Port Rating:
We decided to do this port alone. It is a fantastic city and the ship docks about 30 mins walk from the city centre.the walk there is dotted with landmarks. Once in the city centre, pick up a guided boat trip and waterboat package. Then you can explore the city and get back to the boat by waterbus (there is a stop near on one route operated).
NCL Shore Excursions Pros- Reliable. Close to port. safe and secure. guides are always great and local Cons- Expensive and overpriced. It is nearly always cheaper to explore a port on your own, but may not be as useful due to lack of guide or inside knowledge

Warnemunde
Port Rating:
This is the port where many people take the 2.5 h train ride for a day in Berlin. We didn't do this due to cost and the fact that we visited the wonderful city only a year ago. So we opted for the City of Dukes excursion which is worth doing to visit the beautiful town of Schwerin (1.5 h drive) and its castle. Warnemunde is a small, uninteresting town with a nice beach. Rostock nearby may be worth more of an extensive visit

Tallinn
Port Rating:
A brilliant port. Get out there and explore Tallinn to the fullest. Make the most of your time by doing a shore excursion (e.g. Walking Tour) and then staying in the city alone for a few more hours as there is plenty to see. The people are friendly and speak excellent English

St. Petersburg
Port Rating:
This city will blow your mind! Usual issues first- the dreaded Immigration (thunder erupts) It was actually fine and although there were longish queues, it is to be expected and the process seemed to flow much smoother than with earlier cruises to St Petersburg. The excursions are expensive but probably worth it here. Definately make sure you visit Peterhof palace as it is amazing. Do note that some full day excursions do overlap, so be careful when choosing.

Helsinki
Port Rating:
While there is not all that much to see in Helsinki, it is a great port. Loses points for the port being a long way from the city centre. We took a taxi into the centre (10 euro) and then bought a Helsinki card (33 euro for an adult, 11 euro for 16 and under) which gives free admission into almost all museums, plus a free guide, boat trip to Suomenlina island fortress (a must see UNESCO world heritage sight with free guided tour), and city tour on a bus. This was a great choice and I highly reccomend doing the same. The card gives you so many included things like public transport as well- it's the smart option compared to an NCL shore excursion.
The Norwegian Jewel also visits Stockholm Wake up extra early to be greeted with fantastic views of the early morning archipelago as you arrive into port. Again, in this port, shore excursions aren't really necessary as navigation is easy and everyone speaks english. The boat docks at 8.00am so try to get a boat trip and guided tour of an archipelago island which leaves at 8.30. It leaves from outside the Grand Hotel.
