Went to Palm Beach and it was nice, though touristy and pricey. The beach bar was a winner. I would recommend taking the local bus up to the beach for $2.30 per person round trip rather than waste money on the cabs. There is a bus every 15 minutes or so and you'll have no problem getting back to the ship on time.
Willemstad was beautiful and the walk across the pontoon bridge was neat, but you may have to hustle if it starts to open. We walked all around town window shopping and purchasing souvenirs. We didn't do excursions in Curacao, but the town was fun to walk around even though it was really hot out. The frozen mojitos at the last bar before returning to the ship tasted pretty good as did the Johnny Rockets milkshakes we had with our lunch.
Spectacular is the only way to describe Dominica. From docking in the rain in the beautiful city of Roseau, to the tour we took with a group of our fellow passengers, the island was captivating. A mostly pristine rainforest, this island was home to much of Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest. We took a tour with Levi Baron of Bumpiing Tours and had a great tour at a reasonable price and were back to the ship with 2 hours to spare. We got to see Titou Gorge which was in the movie and the more adventurous were able to swim up to a waterfall, then went to Trafalgar Falls, very nice twin waterfalls. Don't miss the overlook at Morne Bruce which has spectacular views of the city and your cruise ship docked right in town.
We enjoyed the tour so much, that we booked a Celebrity Summit cruise in January that returns to Dominica and have reserved space with Levi again and would recommend him to anyone. He's an extremely nice guy who loves showing off his home to visitors and it shows. He has a stocked cooler with bottled water, soft drinks and the local beer, Kukuli, all included in the price of the tour. This was our favorite stop on the cruise.
Having been to St. Thomas before, we just wanted to relax on the beach after our heavy day in Dominica. We hopped the cab (at $8 per person) and spent an enjoyable 1/2 day on the beach at Magen's Bay. It's a little touristy, but nowhere near as touristy as Aruba. The water is crystal clear and it's a completely sheltered bay, so no surf hammering you down to the sand. The restaurant was ok and the bartenders made a mean rum punch. There's nice shopping in town and at the Havensight cruise pier, but we just climbed back aboard, jumped in the hot tub and pool and got ready for the trip home.
For disembarkation day we booked the El Yunque Rain Forest tour with airport dropoff. The rainforest is beautiful and Jerry, our tour guide, did a great job. Taking your bags through Customs and putting them on the truck that took them to the airport where they were guarded until we were dropped off 5+ hours later was way easier than taking a cab or a ship's transfer and killed quite a bit of the day's wait for our flight. It was well worth it at $40 per head.
