Nice little town with plenty of shopping opportunities. Take advantage of the coupons in the Alaska book given to you on embarkation. Found prices for souveniers to be comparable to other ports.
Took the Ketchikan Duck tour which was quite entertaining, and very appropriate for families and children.
Very pretty port. Ship docks are right in the middle of the action. Took the Deluxe Tour of Salmon Hatchery, Mendehall Gardens, and Glacier. Not much time to do anything else.
Ship docks a short shuttle ride ($2 each way of $5 for an all day pass)from town. You can easily walk to town also (about 1/4 mile). The stores were fun, with lots of variety. The shuttle will stop every couple of blocks which allows you to hop on and off with the all day pass if walking is an issue.
Shore Excursion: Train up to the Yukon, with Bus Ride back stopping in Liarsville. Train and bus ride were wonderful with great views and fun commentary form the bus driver. The Liarsville stop was kind of hokey, and the panning for gold not very much fun since they give you a pan with gold flecks imported in from Canada that you are supposed to "discover" But all in all a good time.
Seattle is a great town. We took the after cruise tour which was great. Our tour guide, Joe, is an actor who does the tours in the summer. He had great inside information and made the three hour tour very entertaining and a lot of fun.
