With such wonderful weather, I decided to take a catamaran cruise to Misty Fiords National Monument. It was a nice excursion but became memorable when we entered Rudyard Arm. This was like Yosemite Valley only with an arm of the sea at the base of the huge glaciated mountains. Not to be missed.
Spectacular setting for a state capital. If the weather is good, I recommend taking the "blue school bus" to Mendenhall Glacier for $14 round trip and taking in the view.
This was my favorite port. I saved the train trip for another visit but enjoyed walking around town exploring National Historic Park sites and then taking the trail to Yakutania Point and Smuggles Cove. A lovely walk through the forest and more spectacular mountain and ocean scenery.
