Very interesting port and very convenient. Residents were extremely friendly. Shops had lots of interesting Russian momentos that are not the usual Alaskan souvenirs.
This is a great town to get out in the neighborhoods and walk around. A couple of the residents came out of their homes to greet us and to chat. It appeared that the town had been affected by the challenged economy, although it was still quite charming. The smell of cooking fish permeated the air. The view from the hills above the port was remarkable and was only a short hike from the ship. There were friendly information people at the port with easy to read maps of the area.
