Montevideo, Uruguay: Due to strong winds we could not dock until late afternoon. All ships tours were cancelled and refunds were given. Some people went ashore to visit the leather factories very disappointed in quality, selection and prices. Others had booked private tours and met their tour guides and went on shortened excursions. They were quite satisfied. We sailed at 11 pm. Next stop Falkland Islands.
Stanley, Falkland Islands: We tendered here and the tendering process went well. We booked a tour through Princess to Bluff Cove to see penguins. The tour was excellent. We left Stanley in a small bus (16 passengers) and on the side of the road met up with four land rovers. Four people went in each and the drivers were quite skillful as they took us over fields through shallow rivers and then finally to our destination. We saw two kinds of penguins: Gentoos and King. There was a small cafe were we were served homemade sweets and coffee, tea or hot chocolate. We purchased postcards and stamps to be mailed from the Falkland Islands to our neighbours (they did receive them). We had over an hour here before going back by land rover to meet the bus to take us back to the port. We had plenty of time to shop before returning to the ship.
Ushuaia, Argentina: We again took a ships tour. We docked here. I am sure that everyone that could got off the ship as we had been at sea for seven days. We took the train tour to the end of the world. We followed the tracks that prisoners took many years ago when Ushuaia was used as a prison colony. Part of the tour was visiting Ensenada Bay. We again took advantage of the opportunity to purchase post cards and stamps to have then mailed from the southernmost point of civilization. We quite enjoyed our tour. There was time to look around the port area and shop for souvenirs. Beautiful countryside.
Santiago, Chile: Well the cruise is over. We took a ships tour of Santiago and Area and visited a winery and vineyard. This tour included lunch. The guide was excellent, we saw lots and the lunch was very good (beef steak or salmon fillet) including soup, salad, main, dessert, coffee, wine and local "sour" . We arrived at the airport at 7 pm, lots of time for our 19:30 pm flight to Miami. Princess personnel had our bags together and on a cart and they were wandering the airport ensuring that everyone was fine. Excellent service.
