We toured on our own with Pink Lady Tours, specifically with Olga Escuen, who was an absolute dream of a tour guide. Please contact her at oescuen@hotmail.com, or pinkladyolga-aca@hotmail.com. Her cell number is 044 (744)44 19 62 36. She picked us up just outside the dock in an airconditioned Suburban, and took us to the cliff divers first. We got there early and had great spots for the divers. Then we were off to a market for 20 minutes, and then to a couple of great scenic spots on the opposite end, clear up on top. She provided great historic and specific info about all the sights in between. I overheard another tour's passenger asking about the architect of a church we toured, and their guide didn't know info Olga had already told us. We felt lucky and special to have her. $35 a person for five hours - private tour.

Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo
Port Rating:
Zihuatanejo was the best part of our trip, and the place we felt most relaxed. We suggest you take a private water taxi to Las Gatos beach for $10 apiece, rather than waiting for an hour for the cheaper one at $3.50. It was high season when we were there, so it was crowded on the taxis. Had we known the hassle and the wait, we would have forked over the extra money for a quick trip. We hooked up with Franko for beach chairs and buckets of Corona for $1.50 each, and a decent lunch. Ended the day with Margaritas which were really, really strong. A perfect, relaxing beach day in the sun in a laid back part of a laid back town.

Puerto Vallarta

Actually MANZANILLO, which isn't on the dropdown list. We took a cab ($12 for four) to Santiago where we went ATV four-wheeling for about 4 hours through Jiovanis Tours (avalos_nueva@hotmail.com, 314-119-2682). The place the cab drops you off is a roadside hut, but the ATVs are in great shape and the tour of the back country fields, woods, rivers, and towns is fantastic. Bring water and prepare to come back totally dusty. This was really, really fun and worth the money. Again, we booked it separately for $70 apiece, as compared to a group of 20 as a ship-arranged shore excursion for $139 each. We got to go fast and didn't have to wait for the group.
