Sitka was incredibly scenic. We got off the boat and easily walked over to the totem pole park, right along the water. Saw lots of totem poles among the trees. This was the only port where we had to use tenders, and it took quite a while to get off the ship. But they gave everyone numbers, so you didn't have to wait in line.
The whale watching tour was pretty good-we saw a couple of whales, although we saw even more whales from the cruise ship. We saved about 50.00 per person by walking off the boat and booking on the dock. We also took the 10.00 bus to Mendenhall Glacier-I would highly recommend doing this. The tours only give you 45 minutes, and if you want to see the video and touch 200 year old ice, and walk to the amazing waterfall and edge of the glacier, then you need more time. The rangers also had telescopes trained on mountain goats that you could watch. We were probably there for 2.5 hours.
A charming little town. It wasn't raining the day we were there, but it is very pretty, with little wooden houses on the hillsides, and a lovely creek. Lots of interesting little stores. Some totem poles that you can walk to. We only had 4 hours there, and wished for longer.
