We rented a car from budget and drove to the flea markets in Kissimmee for the day. Great trip. Great fun. Sorry Carnival, but this fun had nothing to do with you. We generated it ourselves. The budget car rental is close, and they have a shuttle to their rental which is about a 5 minute drive away. They were very friendly, and the rental fees were very reasonable. The car was in new like condition and worked very well. I highly recommend renting a car and taking a drive.
We went to a Carnival seminar on how to get the best from your shopping in the Bahamas and how to get all the deals with Brandon. After we returned from our shore shopping in Nassau, we realized it was a sales pitch to sell us a book for 20.00 which supposedly had all these wonderful deals and free coupons. The book was a total scam. We received dollar store trinkets from on shore vendors, rather than these precious gemstones that Brandon toted. Shame on you Carnival! Wake up.. this was one of the biggest turn offs we had on the ship. I was a first time cruiser, but I will not be taken again… guaranteed! The other adults in our party, along with other cruisers we overheard talking all felt the same way, "scammed by the cruise line". We went on an island excursion to see the island, which was the best part of our Nassau stop. The driver was friendly, and we got to see a little bit of what life was like on the island with a few stops along the way. He narrated the trip so there was a good understanding of what you were seeing.
We went into town on a taxi, got in the water for a swim, did a bit of shopping and headed back to the boat. Nothing outstanding to see or do. The best part was the swim at the beach, but the public beach was a bit hard to find, and we had to ask locals. After we got to the "beach" we were told where we was was a part of a local resort and we had to move further down the beach to the public area. Once we found it the swimming was fun.
