It was Sunday. A lot of the private tour guides were saying that the stores were closed, but only a few were. But it was hot and it was crowded. We met up with a friend and just walked around town. One hint – circle on the far side of the building when you come back in – that line seems to move faster.
We wanted to go to the synagogue and the Amber Museum. While the rest of the BlueBeard Castle complex is open, the Amber Museum appears to have permanently closed a few months ago. This was the third time at the synagogue and the first time we heard a docent from the synagogue. Cantor Diane seems to do three or four tours a day when the ships are in port- she was wonderful. Then we just walked back downtown and took a shared ride to the ship. We are not "shoppers" but I think this was the best of our stops for shopping (the other two being St Martaan and Nassau)
we took our time deciding on what we might do. WE decided to do something active and when we went to the excursion desk all of our first choices were not available or sold out – it almost sounded like one of the other cruise lines might have out bid them for some of the choices, We did a basic bus trip around the island with a 60 minute shopping. I don’t know if it’s advantageous or not but if you have Euros you might want to bring them. Almost everything was quoted in Euro on the French side.
